                National Paralegal Institute (NPI)

Bill Statsky was the Assistant Director of the National Paralegal Institute (NPI) in the early 1970s. NPI was part of the War on Poverty within the Office of Economic Opportunity (OEO) in Washington DC.

One of the goals of OEO was to develop the role of paralegals working in law offices that were funded to serve poor people in civil cases. To this end, OEO created NPI. The role of NPI was to develop training materials for paralegals working in legal service offices and legal aid offices throughout the country.

NPI went out of existence when OEO ceased to exist in the 1980s. Since that time, other organizations have used the name, National Paralegal Institute.
